Natalie Portman has an ultimate goal of working with her co-star Anthony Hopkins. But now and again, it had a terrible impact on her performance.
How Anthony Hopkins became associated with “Thor”
Best known for his tragic roles in Hollywood, Hopkins has won widespread acclaim and attention. In 2011, the public observed the Oscar winner dabbling in the superhero genre. He then contributed his skills to the Marvel film Thor as Odin, the father of the title character.
Hopkins was first drawn to the movie for more reasons than its subject matter. He only wanted the chance to collaborate with the movie’s director, Kenneth Branagh.
According to Pop Entertainment, Hopkins once said, “It’s Ken Branagh, basically. If they gave me enough money to read the phone book, I’d do it. See, I live in a total state of non-expectation.”
Being in Thor for Hopkins was the result of various developments that occurred in the actor’s life at that time.
“I had come back from a movie with Woody Allen [You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger], which was a big surprise. I enjoyed that. Then I had an agent and I left them because I wasn’t very happy. I got a new agent, and within two days they said, ‘Would you like to meet Ken Branagh?’ and I said, ‘Yeah. What about?’ He said, ‘Odin.’ I said, ‘Oh, that’s a god, isn’t it?’ He says, ‘Yeah.’”
Anthony Hopkins just accepted the role of Odin when Branagh gave it to him after a memorable encounter.
Many actors and fans respect Hopkins and his work because of his contributions to the film business. Including Portman, who in Thor: The Dark World got to work with her idol in front of the camera. But at one point, her adoration for the actor had become so intense that it affected how she performed in the follow-up.
“I felt totally threatened,” In a past interview with The Telegraph, Portman stated. “I kept messing up lines around him because I was so nervous, and he was so sweet about it. He made me feel at ease. He’d be like, ‘That’s a really hard line to say,’ and I’d be like, ‘No, I just can’t get it out.’ Your jaw drops on the floor watching him he’s just… Man.”
Portman also acknowledged forgetting to perform when Anthony Hopkins was present in a reappeared interview with Static Multimedia (using Comic Book Movie).
“You just sit there and try to remind yourself to act because he’s just like, you are jaw dropped on the floor watching him,” she told.
Anthony Hopkins admitted that by the time Thor came along, he had grown a little jaded with the acting craft. The Marvel movie and the people he had previously worked with brought back his passion for the film industry.
He said, “I’d gone through a patch where I was getting very indifferent to everything, and I could care less about anything. Then to work with Ken, he just pushed the right buttons to get me to give my best. I really value that in him, because I’d gotten lazy. He’s one of the best directors I’ve worked with, and so that was the principal reason.”
Anthony Hopkins allegedly thought that performing on Thor was the greatest fun he’d had in years, thanks to his experience on the set.
